Annette is a woman woman with short hair and glasses. She is wearing a black shirt with a white wall behind her.

Annette graduated with a Masters of Social Work in 2017 from Wilfrid Laurier University and is a Registered Social Worker and certified Perinatal Mental Health Therapist. Annette has worked in the field of mental health for over 15 years. Some of her previous work has been in infant and childhood mental health and supporting women and children who have experienced domestic violence and trauma. Currently, through her private practice and Whole Family Psychotherapy, Annette provides perinatal mental health counselling and parent support virtually within Ontario. In addition to this, Annette has facilitated the 2SLGBTQIA+ perinatal support group through Together Waterloo. While becoming a parent can bring joy and fulfillment, the changes and stressors that accompany the perinatal period can also have substantial impacts on a parent’s mental health, impacting a parent’s ability to cope and can create changes and stressors within their relationships. It is important to feel heard and understood during this transitional period. For queer families, there can be added barriers to accessing supports, feeling understood and experiencing a sense of belonging. As a queer parent, Annette recognizes the expansive ways families take shape and the need to feel seen, celebrated and included in the spaces and services they access.
